Reflection

Updated: Jul 2, 2021

To be part of the Global Learning Medallion program has opened many opportunities to me in order to better myself and reach my goals. Completing my internship with FIU Start Up Food was a driving force in my decision to want to expand the food and beverage program. Having the opportunity to create and teach different courses and workshops delving into the technicalities of food safety and food science has made me more aware of the extensive potential the hospitality program has. The direct communication and teamwork I had with entrepreneurs encouraged me to want to expand this knowledge globally , so other small start up businesses can have the right tools and knowledge armed to reach their own goals.

Opening more career options in the hospitality and tourism industry will allow more stable career options, this is especially important due to the fact that the industry heavily requires par time workers, affecting the local and global level within the industry.

Pushing boundaries to develop this new program and initiate more opportunities for other entrepreneurs, potential accolades and students in the future to have more career options in the hospitality and tourism industry is important for global engagement. To do this, I had to develop more interpersonal, soft and hard skills for better efficiency and encourage others to understand my goal. The Academy of Leaders was a stepping stone to attending more interactive programs or discussions, such as LYVE, First Gen or the I Can't Breathe discussion. Having the ability to discuss important topics is the driving force to always want to improve and embrace any future changes.
