FIU Insights: I Can’t Breathe
After the Black Lives Matter incident, as a person of color, it became important to truly understand and participate in supporting others in the community. This virtual discussion opened up an honest discussion about what can be done to truly be diverse.
FIRST GEN
This virtual lecture introduced multiple international or local college graduates whom are the first to graduate in their household. This opportunity to hear first hand how they struggled and accomplished was an inspiration.
LYVE
This virtual discussion focused more on younger generations and how to apply new found understandings and concerns of Black Lives Matters and other activism groups.
Courses
THE 2000
One of the major projects was going to a live play and analyzing the stage set up and plot of the play. Analyzing Hello Dolly! live allowed me to have a more in-depth and complex understanding of not only the work and effort put into changing each scene and atmosphere, but how the characters changed their emotions each scene.
HFT 3503
This hospitality marketing class focused on understanding how to use the knowledge of the general publics demographics and trends in order to properly develop promotional information.
HFT 4323
The environmental hospitality course opened a deeper understanding of the potentials of how to develop sustainable hotels. My presentation focused solely on proper water sourcing in order to run the facility efficiently without excess unrenewable sources.
AMH 2020
This American History course majorly focused on the cause and effect of each event in American history from the civil war to the civil rights movement. With this understanding, it helped clarify what could potentially be done to avoid repeating history.
MCB 2000
With science being a universal connection in understanding the building blocks of the earth, this course creates a foundation in understating what bacteria affect humans, the environment and food. The knowledge form this course was applied to my internship capstone, where microbial swabbing identified food safety levels.
HFT 3603
This law course is a positive application to real world applications in the hospitality and tourism industry. With tourism being global , understanding basic rights and regulations applying to employees and guests is essential.
